    • Cleaning following a prompt:

Precondition: The maintenance indicator and the CLEANING display are illuminated. Press the Cleaning button until the CLEANING indicator flashes. The COFFEE GROUNDS CONTAINER indicator starts to flash. Now run through the steps as described in the operating instructions under “Maintenance – Cleaning the machine”.

    • Cleaning without a prompt:

You can initiate the cleaning operation manually. To do this, follow the procedure described in “Cleaning following a prompt”.

    Integrated descaling programme

Note: Do not switch your IMPRESSA C5 off to start the descaling programme. The descaling program can only be performed when the machine is switched on.

It is possible to start the descaling programme of your IMPRESSA C5 in two ways:

    • Descaling following a prompt:

Precondition: The maintenance indicator and the DE-SCALE symbol are illuminated. Press the maintenance button until the DE-SCALE symbol flashes. The EMPTY TRAY indicator also flashes. Now empty the tray and follow the instructions on your machine.

    • Descaling without a prompt:

You can initiate the descaling programme manually. To do this, follow the procedure described in “Descaling following a prompt”.

The descaling programme lasts approx. 45 minutes. If the descaling lasts for a long time, this means the descaling programme was started with too much liquid or water was topped up before the tank had emptied.

    • Hint: Restart the descaling programme with 0.5 l water. All the water in the water tank is sucked out during the descaling programme. Please do not top up water until the FILL WATER symbol lights up.

If the DE-SCALE symbol lights up even though the CLARIS filter cartridge is inserted, this means the machine was not changed over to using a filter.

    • Hint: Remove the filter and run the descaling programme. Then insert a new filter and change the machine over to using a filter.
    • Note: Remove the CLARIS filter cartridge from the water tank during the descaling programme. If the filter is left inserted, the coffee will be spoiled because the filter sucks in and is filled with descaling agent.

    CLARIS filter change

It is possible to start the filter change programme of your IMPRESSA C5 in two ways:

    • Change the filter following a prompt:

Precondition: The maintenance indicator and the FILTER symbol are illuminated. Press the FILTER button until the FILTER indicator flashes. At the same time, the light segment on the hot water switch flashes. Insert the new filter and turn the switch in the anticlockwise direction. The machine starts to rinse the filter as soon as you turn the switch in the anticlockwise direction. The LIGHT SEGMENT at the switch starts to shine. Filter rinsing stops automatically after approx. 500 ml. Turn the switch in the clockwise direction. The machine switches to standby. You can switch the machine on again if required.

    • Change the filter without a prompt:

You can initiate the filter change programme manually at any time. To do this, follow the procedure described in “Change the filter following a prompt”.

    • Note: The water may be slightly discoloured during rinsing of the filter. This is not harmful to health.
    • Hint: The CLARIS filter cartridge should be replaced every two months if you do not prepare many beverages, even if no message appears on the display. You can monitor the elapsed time as shown on the date plate on the cartridge holder.

    Coffee taste and coffee temperature

    Coffee taste:
Are you dissatisfied with the coffee taste? A poor coffee taste may be due to the following possible causes:

    • The descaling programme was performed with the CLARIS filter cartridge inserted. In this case, remove the filter, insert a new one and change the machine over to using the filter.
    • Your coffee beans are “sour”. Empty the bean container and fill it with fresh beans.
    • Hint: You can select the coffee strength during the grinding operation. To do this, turn the Rotary Switch to the right during the grinding operation. The light segments display the coffee strength: One light segment means “mild” coffee strength, two light segments mean “normal” and three light segments mean “strong”.

    Coffee temperature:
Is your coffee not hot enough? A coffee temperature that is too low is frequently due to the following cause:

    • If you are not using a CLARIS filter cartridge, your machine might have built up limescale deposits. Check the water hardness, set the machine to the correct water hardness and perform descaling.
    • Hint: Pre-heat your cup!

    Milk foam

The IMPRESSA C5 is equipped with the Easy Cappuccino frother / fine foam frother as a standard feature. You can also connect the Professional Cappuccino Frother / Professional fine foam frother thanks to the Connector System©. Milk can be frothed using both frothers.

If the milk is not foamed with the Cappuccino Frother (fine foam frother), this means the frother is blocked. Remove the frother and clean it thoroughly.

    • Please note that the frother always has to be cleaned well after preparation of milk or milk foam.
    • Hint: Use the special JURA Auto Cappuccino Cleaner for cleaning.
    • Note: The fat content of milk does not influence frothing. It is also possible to use low-fat milk.
    • Hint: If you are not using a CLARIS filter cartridge, the descaling programme can be run because calcium deposits in the pipes can impair steam preparation.

    Display and text messages

If the maintenance indicator lights up (red bar), open the access door and note the further indicators in the maintenance field.

Carry out the indicated request in accordance with the Instructions for Use.

If the light segments on the “Water/steam” switch flash. The system is empty after repair or transport.

“Empty coffee grounds container / drip tray missing” symbol.
The coffee grounds container is full, the drip tray is missing or has not been inserted correctly.

Empty the coffee grounds container and reinsert the drip tray after waiting 10 seconds.

“Change filter” symbol. The CLARIS plus filter cartridge is used up.

Perform the filter change as described in the Instructions for Use.

“Machine furred” symbol lights up. The descaling programme must be performed.

It is still possible to prepare coffee, although descaling should be performed within the next few days.

The “Machine furred” symbol lights up despite the CLARIS plus filter cartridge being inserted.
The machine has not been changed over to using the filter.

Remove the exhausted filter from the water tank and run the descaling programme. Then insert a new filter cartridge and change the machine over to using a filter.

"Machine furred" lit for more than one hour. (The descaling operation takes 45 minutes.)
The descaling programme was started with too much liquid or fresh water was topped up too soon.
All the water in the water tank must be sucked out during the descaling programme.

Perform the descaling programme again with 0.5 l water.

There is a general malfunction if all maintenance symbols “Empty drip tray”, “Clean machine”, etc. light up at the same time.

    • Hint: Disconnect the machine from the mains and leave it to stand for about 1 hour. Please contact Customer Support if the malfunction indicator does not go out.
