06/06/2025 - Filter housing made from 100% bio-based plastic

JURA is taking a further step towards sustainability and producing the CLARIS filter housing from 100% bio-based plastic, which is made from tall oil, for example. Tall oil is a by-product of pulp and paper production and enables environmentally friendly, CO₂-neutral production.

With tall oil, JURA is using an environmentally friendly, renewable source of raw materials. The water filter housings are manufactured under the ISCC*-PLUS certification seal in a properly monitored production process. Because wood stores CO₂ during growth, production begins with a negative CO₂ balance. The resulting emissions balance each other out so that the end product is climate-neutral. The advantages of bio-based plastic are obvious: By using renewable biomass as a basis, JURA is reducing its dependence on fossil materials.

Perfect water for perfect coffee
Coffee is 98% water. Accordingly, water quality is critical to ensuring perfect coffee. The filter granule always filters limescale to the optimum level (even with low water hardness) and reduces harmful and flavour-impairing substances such as chlorine extremely efficiently. Minerals, which act as important flavour carriers, are retained. CLARIS water filters work according to the professional up-flow principle and always freshly filter the exact amount of water required for the selected preparation. They increase the protection, product safety and service life of JURA automatic coffee machines.

* ISCC stands for International Sustainability & Carbon Certification and is a global certification programme for the circular economy and bio-economy.
